Many a client's insight into technical issues germinate in a cloud of hindsight, after a website production and deployment have taken a turn for the worst. If everything has gone well, the client is spared the “education”, at least until the next revamp/redesign. But if the finished product does not meet expectations, the questions begin. Unsatisfactory redesigns are most often the result of faulty planning at the startup stage, misunderstood backside technologies and the related implementation throughout the process. A developer will tell a client what they want/believe the customer should hear. The result may not always meet what the client had envisioned at startup.
Clients can protect themselves by exploring key issues and getting multiple opinions early in the process. The technology and tools need to fit the project requirements.
Do the homework and determine the best fit for your project, with thought to future updates/upgrades, scaling and other relevant issues. Understand in detail the pros/cons to various technical Frameworks, CMS and other systems that require "full control" of your website's backside structure.
A few rules apply universally:
- Adhere to basic HTML/CSS standards
- Invest in real world testing across all platforms throughout the process
